Allowing things to be and Letting go…..
With each day, new challenges and difficulties can arise. Learning to allow things to be as they are and gently turning towards the difficult is an act of Radical Acceptance.
It is a departure from our usual way of being with the inevitable difficulties and challenges in our lives. Mindfulness helps us to to see things clearly, the challenges and the joys, see things as they are, and to be with each moment, as best we can.
We can waste so much of our time and of our lives wanting things to be different, wanting to change ourselves, change others, and change the world.
When we cling to the illusion that our lives would be less challenging, if only things were different……..we are creating tension and frustration.
This in turn, often causes more upset, more anger, more resentment and ultimately a lot more unhappiness within us.
As Thich Nhat Hanh said, “Letting go gives us freedom, and freedom is the only condition for happiness. If in our heart, we still cling to anything-anger, anxiety or possessions, we cannot be free.”
What would it feel like to accept the inevitable challenges in our lives, to accept the people around us, for who they are, and to accept the world as it is?
One of the most freeing moments in life is to allow things to be as they are and to let go of that which we cannot change.
